2.1 Data Stored Locally (Chrome Storage)

The majority of your data never leaves your browser. The following is stored in Chrome's local storage (chrome.storage.local):

• Job filter preferences and search settings
• Notification preferences (channels, frequency)
• AI provider API keys (entered by you, stored only in your browser)
• Cached job listings for offline access
• Extension configuration and UI preferences

2.2 Data Processed by Our Backend

If you use features that require our backend service (such as Slack integration), we may process:

• Your email address (for account authentication)
• Slack workspace tokens (for sending notifications to your channels)
• Session tokens (for maintaining your login state)

2.3 Data We Do NOT Collect

• Upwork account credentials or passwords
• Financial information or payment details (handled by Lemon Squeezy)
• Browsing history outside of Upwork
• Personal messages or communication content
• Your AI provider API keys (these stay in your browser)

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your data solely to:

• Provide and improve the Upwork Scout service
• Authenticate your account and manage your subscription
• Send job notifications to your configured channels (Slack, WhatsApp)
• Provide customer support when you contact us

4. Third-Party Services

Upwork Scout integrates with third-party services that you choose to configure. Each service has its own privacy policy:

• AI Providers (Claude/Anthropic, ChatGPT/OpenAI, DeepSeek) — You provide your own API keys. Data sent to these providers for proposal generation is governed by their respective privacy policies.
• Slack — Used for sending job notifications to your workspace. Governed by Slack's privacy policy.
• WhatsApp — Used for sending job alert messages. Governed by WhatsApp's privacy policy.
• Lemon Squeezy — Our payment processor. Handles all billing and payment data. Governed by Lemon Squeezy's privacy policy.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Local data stored in Chrome is retained until you uninstall the extension or clear your browser data. Backend account data is retained while your account is active. Upon account deletion request, we will remove your data from our servers within 30 days. You can request data deletion by contacting us at support@upworkscout.com.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), secure token storage, and regular security reviews. However, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Cookies

Upwork Scout is a browser extension and does not use cookies. Our landing page may use essential cookies for basic functionality but does not use tracking or advertising cookies.

8. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it promptly.
